Would it be possible for an organization to survive or be successful without the use of training and development tools for their employees?

  1. I think it would be possible to survive, but success would be incremental without a pro-active effort of training. The company I work for is a perfect example with the cutback of training and consulting funds. And, beyond the decrease of training funds we have also eliminated travel funds for seminars until the construction market begins to turn. What I have noticed since then is minimal projects in-house geared towards making systems more efficient and employees more productive. I think it’s fair to say we have enough human capital to get the job done, but we are not working towards goals that would increase our successes.

  2. I agree with mraposas. In the short run, success would still be possible, but the level of and the success rate would be slowed down dramatically as compared to a company with trained employees. In the long run however, it is difficult to say. Technology advancements, new processes and a change in the environment and consumer's preferences will alter a business strategy. There is a very high possibility that without proper equipment and training, a company will be left behind, may lose their competitive advantage, and worse of all may not be able to survive.
